International affairs

Internationalisation in social work is increasingly relevant in light of current global developments and their social impact. On an international scale, social work practice is directed at such issues as human rights, global inequality and worldwide migration. The global dimension of the profession also calls on a firm grasp of the social policies and social welfare systems of other countries, region-specific and culture-specific approaches to solving social problems as well as an exchange of expertise with professional colleagues around the world.

As a student in the ZHAW School of Social Work, you have the option of completing a semester abroad during the course of your studies. In our aim to promote mobility, international exchange as well as grant students as much freedom as possible in making their selection, we encourage a variety of stays abroad.

A stay abroad of any kind provides students with an opportunity to acquire intercultural competencies, gain practical experience abroad in the field of social work and strengthen foreign language proficiency. These skills and competencies are prerequisite to a successful start in today’s profession.
